These stand for Pause, Protect, Pivot and Project - you can use this for
🔷 a longer, more reflective period in your life when dealing with big shifts in your identity and purpose - these are often called Life Transitions
🔷 and also for any immediate challenge in your everyday life, once you are comfortable with the technique.
I have been using this when dealing with changing jobs in different areas and types of employer, moving house across countries, coping with debilitating chronic pain, family relationship challenges, bereavements, menopause and ageing....these are just the labels we can use, however, each of us knows when our old self doesn't quite fit the new cisrcumstances we find ourselves in.
I decided to write an Ebook to pin down what worked for me and pass on to others who might benefit.
I called it DIY Life Coaching with the 4P Framework, you can read more about it HERE where there is a link to a FREE sample.
Here is a description of the first P:
You know something feels off, whether a remark in an office and you feel compromised, or you are so tired you have not time or space for any thing you like to do - this is the moment to stop, take a breath and slow it all down. In an immediate situation, find somewhere to have space and a few minutes deep breathing, this helps your focus. When navigating a bigger issue, the Pause can be any lenght of time as a whole - or give yourself blocks of time within a week. If you're very stressed, perhaps consider some proper time out, whatever options you have for that. Some find a long walk in countryside or beside a river or the sea really helps - nature calms your nervous system and can provide a reset.
We have been trained into thinking that a "holiday" will resolve this - that depends on the balancing act of organising it, paying for it, the travel demands, who you are with...wil it really relax you? Can you find a way to build reset moments every day, alongside de-stressing activities every week?
Movement releases tension, music is a powerful and pleasant, watch a film or video, see your friends, listen to a podcast, meditate, enjoy making something, spend time outside in a green space or beside flowing water, read a book, walk the dog, play with or just be with the kids, walk round a gallery or musem, visit a castle or historic site, drive or take a train or bus somewhere you've never been!
You are training your body and mind to relax and know you are taking care of you - sometimes this takes a mindshift as we may have put others' needs ahead of our own, however, if you are not functioning in a healthy and sustainanble way, you can find burnout happening without realising.
